Alan Baldwin
I am a native Kentuckian born in Danville in 1946 and raised in Hopkinsville in western Kentucky. I attended Eastern Kentucky University where I received a bachelor's degree in Political Science and was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the U.S. Army. I meet my wife at Eastern and we were married on June 1, 1968. I had a 22-year military career with 3 tours of duty in Germany working with the British, Dutch and Germany military in nuclear weapons surety. I was with the 25th Infantry Division and MACV in Vietnam. We moved to Morehead for the first time in 1978 when I was assigned to the ROTC Program at MSU. I returned to Morehead in 1985 to become the head of the ROTC Program. I retired in 1989 as a Lieutenant Colonel from the U.S. Army and went to work for the University and am currently the Assistant to the Provost. In my work at the University, I am responsible for coordination of the Governor's Scholar's Program and the annual Spring Gala. Additionally, I work the President's Leadership Academy.
I have served on the City Council since 1998 and have witnessed substantial change come to Morehead. I believe that even greater and more rapid change will be coming to the community over the next few years. I also serve as the City Council representative on the Morehead Utility Plant Board and on the Board of Directors of Morehead Tomorrow and am the Board Chair for the Gate way Children's Advocacy Center.
I am a small business owner. A. Baldwin & Associates is an antiques, collectibles and gift shop at 170 East Main Street.
My goals as a City Council Member are:
Serve with absolute integrity and do the right thing for the community and the citizens
Move the city and county toward creating a single, consolidated government
Re-develop at vibrant downtown with specialty shops and places to eat and visit
Attract a downtown hotel to serve the City, University, St Claire Regional Medical Center and the Morehead Conference Center
Help to make the Morehead Conference Center a great success Work to constantly improve the communications and cooperation between the City and the University
