Alcohol Control
Any person desiring to sell, purchase, or transport alcoholic beverages in the City of Morehead must first hold the required state and city licenses. The classes of City licenses are as follows:
Retail Package Liquor License
(i.e. Distilled Spirits & Wine)
Retail Malt Beverage License
Retail Restaurant Wine License
Retail Restaurant Malt Beverage
Retail Tavern Malt Beverage License
Special Temporary License
Private Club License
Retail Drink License
Retail Restaurant Drink License
Caterer's License
Wholesale Malt Beverage Distributor
Microbrewery License
Supplemental Bar License
To obtain licenses or more information, you may call the Alcohol Control office. If you would like to download license applications, please refer to Documents Center/Applications. To learn more about City laws concerning alcohol control, refer to the City of Morehead Code of Ordinances(See Documents Center) Chapter 113.
There is also a three percent regulatory tax imposed on gross receipt sales of alcohol. This is paid on a monthly basis via tax returns submitted to the City Clerk's Office by the 20th day of each month for the preceding month's sales. One-twelfth of the annual, originally paid license fee serves as a credit and shall be deducted from the three-percent tax payment each month
