Welcome to Morehead - Situated in the Daniel Boone National Forest on the edge of the Appalachian Mountains Morehead is just a short drive from scenic Cave Run Lake. If you like hiking, biking, swimming, boating, fishing, water skiing, canoeing, bird watching, camping, or just the solitude of nature, then Morehead and Cave Run Lake is your ideal destination.

By working together, Morehead and Rowan County is experiencing unprecedented growth and progress. We serve a region of at least seven counties and are the employment, economic, business, educational, medical, cultural and recreational hub for this region. Morehead State University is a regional university serving over 9,300 students. The Rowan County School System was chosen by the Wall Street Journal as one of the top 100 schools in the nation.

Morehead and Rowan County boasts three industrial parks that supply several thousand much-needed jobs and a thriving, growing business community.

There are many opportunities to fulfill cultural yearnings in our community. Morehead is the home of the Kentucky Folk Art Center, the only center of its kind in the state, dedicated to the skills of unschooled artisans. MSU offers musical venues for all likes and tastes. Community theater and MSU theater together supply the community with drama. If you're interested in local cultural events, there is something going on from June through early December such as Bluegrass Music Festivals, local art shows, Old Time Fiddlers Convention, Storytelling Festival and Home Town Holidays.

Our city's leaders, employees and volunteers all strive to help our city reach its great potential. As The Athenian Oath so eloquently states:

We will strive unceasingly to quicken the public's sense of civic duty.
Thus, in all these ways, we will transmit this City greater & more beautiful than it was transmitted to us.

(Oath of citizenship taken in ancient Athens)
